Very interesting! I really appreciate the peckerhead box.. the original 56 frame motor had the wiring box integrated into the rear bell. Completely out of the way! Hindsight's a real pain in the ass! If the stupid thing didn't have the fan on the inside, it would have been easy-peasy! Appreciate your insight/experience thermite! Also the motor didn't have a junction box when I got it. The motor came to me with the wires exiting the stator shell through 4 holes with rubber grommets. I replicated that There are three 10-32 holes - two above the wire exit and one below. Seems like some sort of junction box at one time. Anybody ever seen what a junction box might look like. The was a standard for marking the leads of a dual-voltage motor. The standard may still be in effect. The marks may be numeric tags or rings of white paint on the motor leads inside the junction box. My experience is that the rings of .
The box contains a relay; a motor capacitor is mounted just outside the box. I can post photos of the junction box and the contactor; just wanted to get the conversation started. Schneider Electric has diagrams in its Wiring Diagram Book for a various single phase motors, but nothing for 3-wires, with a capacitor AND a relay. The junction box plate besides noting 480v and 240v hookups also notes that Thermostat Leads are "J" "J" when provided. They *are* provided on my motor, the question is what to do with them? My best guess is that is a simple NC switch contact that is designed to go open-circuit on a thermal overload. First read the nameplate for wiring instructions. They are some times located in the “peckerhead” or junction box on the motor. If needed refer to the information below. Determining wye or delta connection for motors On delta connected motor lead #s (7,8, & 9), (1& 4), (5& 2), (3& 6) have continuity with each other
The cap is inside the junction box on the side of the motor so it was hard to tell if the smoke was coming from inside the motor, from the conduit that leads up to the power on switch or from the the capacitor. This makes me somewhat optimistic that perhaps I do not have permanent damage to the starter winding in the motor.
I have a 6" junction box with one 6 ga. wire for a 50 amp service. I'd like to "pigtail" this wire to two outlets.one for my welder and one for my plasma cutter. These units will not be used at the same time. Short of running another circuit, what's the best way to . Secondly, a friend in Japan who works in a shop with the same bandsaw, with the same 3-phase motor and switch, took photos for me of the connections at the motor's junction box and at the switch, and it is clear from those photos that Hitachi wired the bandsaw so that the switch operates two phases.
